New Year, New Goals: Nutrition
-Make a list! Meal planning can help you plot out healthy meals and also cut down on grocery bills, as you can look up online what is on sale and plan that week's meals around discounts.
-Make your list varied but not stressful. I love to try new recipes, but it can be a little overwhelming if every meal is a new one. SO i balance it out with tried-and-true meals my family loves, and some new ones sprinkled in to keep me creative! I try to eat salmon at least twice a week, so I will usually have a go-to salmon recipe and then maybe something new to try. Then I'll plan a family favorite meal, make sure I have the specific items I need for my go-to healthy breakfasts and lunches, and THEN I will find a new recipe that includes some seasonal produce and add one in once every few weeks, so I am not stressing out over cooking!
-Shop the perimeter of the store. This is where the fresh foods usually are, and they are the way to go if you want to eat healthier in 2023. Load up on produce, fresh whole-grain breads, lean cuts of meat and fish, and dairy and eggs. You will be surprised how easy it is to make healthy meals just from these areas!
-Invest in herbs and spices. Most spices don't stay good for more than six to 12 months, so treat yourself and your taste buds to new spices. I like a combination of dried and fresh, as both offer up so much flavor and can really make the meal, without any added calories or fat!
-Grab a lemon. A squeeze of citrus can make a dull dish burst with flavor, without using more oil or salt. I use lemon in so many dishes - give it a try!
Hope these tips help you make 2023 the year of eating for your health!
