As women, menopause is inevitable for us… whether we are ready for it or not! That’s why I aim to be open and honest about my journey and what helped me get through this season… the good AND the not so great! I am here to tell you that menopause is exactly what I just said, a season. Some seasons aren’t as fun as others but I’m here to tell you that you can (and will!) get through it!!

We’ve talked about several topics surrounding menopause before, like ways to balance hormones naturally, how to tackle a menopausal belly, and foods that will help alleviate symptoms

Well today we’re going to talk about some foods to avoid. The foods listed below are best to avoid for overall health, but especially important in the perimenopausal and menopausal stages:

  • Processed foods. While these foods taste “oh so good”, they can make us feel “oh so bad”! Instead of reaching for things like chips and cookies, try to snack on veggies with hummus, some rolled up deli turkey, or some nuts if you want a crunch. These are a few of my favorites!
  • Alcohol. It’s not necessary to give up alcohol completely, but limiting it is definitely encouraged! Increased consumption will increase your risk for cardiovascular disease and may even make those hot flashes more prevalent. So feel free to enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail on occasion, just know your limits! Everything on moderation, baby!!
  • Caffeine. Limit caffeine to about 1 serving per day. I love my cup of coffee in the morning, so I still enjoy that! Consuming caffeine in excess may cause some of the unwanted symptoms like night sweats and hot flashes to increase.

I hope avoiding some of these foods will help your perimenopause and menopausal seasons a little less daunting! Any changes you can make, small or big, will make a difference in the long run. I want you to feel beautiful and encouraged through this time in your life! Xoxo
