It's the first day of spring - a time for renewal, growth and focusing on your health! As the weather warms up and flowers begin to bloom, why not try a few healthy, simple shifts in your daily routine that will do wonder for your health and wellbeing? I will be doing the following, so join me for a mini spring reset!!
- Start each day with stretching. Ever notice when you get out of bed in the morning you feel creaks, stiffness or aches and pains? That is simply part of aging, and one of the reasons I love to start the day with a mini stretching routine. It wakens up your body, your senses, your mind... and can have a profound effect on your outlook and goals for the day! Plus it feels amazing to stretch your muscles and gives you time to thank your body for helping you move, lift and live! Try one of my Good Morning Stretch Workouts - 5 minutes to more energy and feeling great!
- ...And a glass of water! I think of this as "hydrating a flower" - you most likely haven't had a full glass of water for the previous 8 hours or so, so rehydrate your body and mind! I prefer a glass of warm/hot water with some lemon squeezed in, so good for your immune system. Give it a try!
- Meal prep and cook healthy meals filled with the colors of the rainbow. Now is the time to take advantage of seasonal produce, and a healthy way to eat is to "eat the rainbow"! Look for recipes that focus on produce - my Denise Austin Membership has an entire recipe and meal plan section, and you can choose the vegetarian option if you are looking for veggie-forward recipes. Keep an ongoing list of the colors you ate, and try to complete that rainbow each and every day! Added bonus: Produce offers so many health benefits!
- Get in at least 20-30 minutes of movement every day. In addition to your stretching, make sure you are moving around every day. It will help boost your metabolism (so you are burning calories even when you sleep!), manage weight, promote energy and keep you regular. Movement is key to healthy living!
- Try the 3 Good Things Exercise before bed. Part of my Vitality For Life Program, this is a wonderful way to end the day on a positive note. Simply keep a journal next to your bed, and before sleep write down three good things that happened that day! Little or big, it doesn't matter - doing this has been proven to lift your mood!
I hope you make a pledge to yourself to add these five simple steps to your daily routine this spring! Let me know how you incorporate them and any other healthy spring resets you plan to do on my Instagram or FaceBook - I love hearing from you all!
Let's live FIT, HAPPY and HEALTHY - together!
